Ahead of Texas school elections, ‘parental rights’ issues in focus as nitty-gritty work awaits

Voters are preparing to cast ballots during a time of increased scrutiny on public schools, fueled by red-meat rallying cries over library books, critical race theory and “parental rights.”
But beyond those headline-grabbing issues, whoever is elected in local May 7 school board races will have a major role in the nitty-gritty education work of combating deep academic setbacks due to the pandemic and, in several districts, choosing the next superintendent who could steer the direction of local schools for years.
